FRIENDS OF THE QUADRIENNALE
Fondazione Quadriennale di Roma is Italy’s institution dedicated to contemporary Italian art. No other organization in Italy has this specific mandate. Our name derives from the Art Quadrennial, an exhibition that, since the Thirties, has been presenting the most significant artistic approaches in Italy’s contemporary art field. The show takes place every four years at Palazzo delle Esposizioni in downtown Rome. We are now working on the next edition scheduled from 2 October 2020 to 10 January 2021.The first Art Quadrennial was organized in 1931 and, since then, the exhibition has featured over 6.000 artists. It has presented – through different curatorial modes – major Italian names, as well as the younger generation and the lesser-known pioneers.
Fondazione Quadriennale di Roma is a non-profit foundation, established and participated by the Italian Ministry of Culture, Lazio Region, Municipality of Rome. We have a reputation for our learning, research and documentation activities in the field of the visual arts of the twentieth and twenty-first century. All the materials produced in our ninety years of activity have converged in our Library and Archives, a cultural asset of extraordinary value, which preserves and enhances a vast documentary heritage, open to the public and also available online.
In order to become an increasingly agile and dynamic cultural institution, Quadriennale di Roma relies on a network of friends whose generous financial contributions and ideas allow us to continue to act as a place of research and innovation and as a significant partner for Italian artists. In the year of the 17th Art Quadrennial – curated by Sarah Cosulich and Stefano Collicelli Cagol – we provide a chance for art enthusiasts, patrons, businesses to take part actively in the promotion of Italian art by becoming friends of the Quadriennale.
Participating in the membership program “Friends of the Quadriennale” means contributing in a concrete way to supporting Italian artists and the specific projects they will create for the upcoming edition of the Quadriennale exhibition The 17th Art Quadrennial will have a strong curatorial edge and an international scope. It will be the outcome of a two-year research process throughout Italy and it will present younger positions along the extraordinary visions of the pioneers. The show will shed new light on the knowledge of Italian art from the Sixty to today.
Being a friend of the Quadriennale means allowing the institution to strengthen and diversify its activities by audience type, encourage wider interest in contemporary art, engage the public in programs involving the most visionary artistic figures of our time. It means enabling the Quadriennale to promote the work of Italian artists through its activities and archives but also to put younger artists in touch with institutions and curators abroad. Being a friend of the Quadriennale means helping the institution to preserve and protect the memory of Italian art in its making.
